From the desk of the Village of Perry Mayor Rick Hauser:
With the police union working closely with the Village Board, the village will be able to maintain the cost savings to taxpayers of the recently adopted police schedule, and retain 24-hour coverage.
The police union agreed to modify its current contract with the village to reduce mandated double coverage to Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights only. The board agreed to provide a new schedule that takes advantage of this greater staffing flexibility to restore full 24-hour coverage. The newly posted schedule retains a projected $20,000 savings.
The new schedule goes into effect immediately.
In other matters:
Monday, the village board will be voting on the 2016-17 budget, which includes a 1-percent decrease in the overall tax rate for the village. It will be the seventh year in which tax rates have remained level or decreased in the Village.
